Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas
Brief description and aims of work
The Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH) is one of the largest research centres in Greece with a research and technological focus on selected areas of great scientific, social, and economic interest and involved in the project via the Institute of Computer Science.
The Institute of Computer Science (ICS), established in 1983, is a pioneer contributor to the deployment and adoption of Information Society Technologies in Greece and plays a leading role in the worldwide efforts to develop an Information Society accessible and acceptable to all citizens.
The research group involved in the p-medicine is the Computational Medicine Laboratory (CML) which has established a tradition of internationally acknowledged excellence in conducting high‐level R&D work and in developing innovative computer methods and tools in the area of medical and biomedical engineering and informatics, e‐health, m‐Health, and medical imaging. Recently the lab is also focusing its R&D activities on biomedical modeling and simulation in the wider VPH research context.
FORTH has an important role in the project. It coordinates WP3, which is responsible for the definition of the reference architecture (RA) of the p-medicine technical infrastructure. It also coordinates WP8, which is responsible for the implementation of the project Workbench, including key infrastructure components and some key services related to seamless data access.
In addition Mr George Zacharioudakis, one of FORTH’s team members, has undertaken the Integration Manager responsibility.
